The mug on the collection shelf

A finished pottery class still had one small piece of unfinished business: getting the pots home.

Maya had made a mug with a handle slightly too large for its body. She liked it more because of that.

The pottery course had ended on Sunday. The finished pieces would be ready later, once the instructor had checked and sorted them. Maya had left her name under the mug and joined the class's PingRoom room before heading home.

On Thursday, Leila arranged the checked pieces on the collection shelf. She found Maya's mug, turned its name toward the aisle, and tapped the class Quick Ping: “Your pottery is ready to collect. Studio open until six.”

Maya saw it while buying groceries two streets away. She added a sheet of wrapping paper to her basket and walked over.

Leila was helping another student when Maya arrived. She pointed toward the shelf. The oversized handle stuck out between two bowls, exactly where Maya could see it.
