The bike was ready to roll

A mechanic finished the repair, sent the agreed signal, and put the bicycle beside the door.

Omar had walked his bicycle to the workshop that morning, carrying the loose pedal in a paper bag.

The mechanic, Jules, could fit the repair between two appointments. Omar joined their shared PingRoom room and went to work at the library nearby. They agreed on one Quick Ping for collection; any change to the job would still need a conversation.

By late afternoon, Jules had finished the repair and checked the bicycle. She rolled it off the stand, parked it beside the front door, and tapped “Bike ready to collect.”

Omar was midway through returning a stack of books. When he saw the Ping, he finished shelving them and told his colleague he would take his break now.

At the workshop, Jules handed him the old part and explained the work. Omar tucked the empty paper bag into his backpack. This time, he left with both hands on the handlebars.
