Milo has had his walk

Two housemates were each leaving work early for the same dog walk.

A charcoal dog beside a pair of shoes and a loosely coiled red lead by the front door.

On Wednesdays, either Jo or Felix walked Milo, depending on who got home first.

The arrangement worked until both of them started leaving things unfinished to get back. Felix would hurry through the last task at work, only to find Jo hanging the lead beside the door.

They added a Quick Ping to their house room: “Milo has had his walk.” It meant the walk was finished, including the muddy paws and the water bowl.

The next Wednesday, Jo got home early. She took Milo around the park, wiped his feet, and sent the Ping before putting her shoes away.

Felix noticed it as he was packing his bag. He stayed to finish the shelf he had been assembling, then stopped for bread on the way home.

Milo was asleep when he arrived. Felix sat beside him for a while. Milo opened one eye when the bread bag rustled, then settled his chin on Felix's foot.
