One lemon before checkout

The missing ingredient mattered while someone was still near the produce aisle.

The sauce needed a lemon. Asha discovered this after the onions were soft, the recipe was open, and the empty fruit bowl had already been checked twice.

Noah was buying milk at the corner shop. He had said he would be heading to the till soon.

They kept a few frequent grocery requests as Quick Pings in their shared PingRoom room. Asha tapped “Please grab a lemon” and went back to stirring.

Noah noticed the notification beside the refrigerators. He crossed back to the produce shelf, added a lemon to his basket, and joined the queue.

When he came through the kitchen door, Asha reached for the lemon before the milk. The sauce had thickened, and she turned the heat down while he unpacked the bag.

Noah put the milk in the fridge and took the plates down. Asha squeezed half the lemon into the pan and handed him a spoon to taste.
