Invite people to a Room without sending a link

Choose people you already know in PingRoom, send a private Room invitation, and let each person join or dismiss it from their Rooms list.

Pingo, the terracotta-red clay pigeon, stands beside a wooden footbridge leading to three gray clay pigeons on another platform.

You make a new Room for the airport run. The people who need it are already in another private Room with you, but the new Room is only for drivers and arrivals. You could copy a link into a chat and ask everyone to work out whether it applies to them.

Or you can choose those people inside PingRoom.

The browser app now lets a Room owner select people they already share a private Room with. Each recipient gets a pending invitation in their Rooms list, where they can join or dismiss it. No link hunt, copied code, or separate message is required.

The browser flow is live now. The public iOS and Android builds are version 1.5.3 and do not contain the native invitation screen. If you use this feature today, complete it in the PingRoom browser app on both sides. Links, codes, and QR invitations still work in the current mobile apps.

On the cover: Pingo the Pigeon™, our official mascot and fictional Chief Marketing Officer, considers the short bridge to a familiar group. It is an editorial metaphor, not a product screen, customer scene, or claim that Pingo can see a Room or invite anyone. AI-generated artwork using approved Pingo references.

Choose people from a shared private Room

Open the Room in the browser app, open its share sheet, and select Invite people. Search the list, choose up to 20 people, then send the invitations.

The list is deliberately narrow. It contains existing PingRoom members you already share an ordinary private Room with. A shared Room name appears under each person so you can place the name before selecting it. People who are already members or already invited remain visible but cannot be selected again.

This is not a directory of every PingRoom account. Public-Room subscriber lists, Personal Room visitors, guests, and agent-managed Rooms are not a way to browse for recipients. The feature helps you move a known group into a more specific Room without turning shared membership into people search.

Only the Room owner can send these invitations. Admin access does not extend to choosing recipients on the owner’s behalf.

The invitation waits before membership begins

For the recipient, the invitation appears above joined Rooms. Opening it shows the Room name, description, sender, and the private Room you share with that sender.

The recipient has two choices:

  • Join adds the Room to their list.
  • Dismiss removes the invitation without telling the sender.

Until the recipient joins, the Room does not count as one of their joined Rooms, add to a folder, or contribute an unread-Ping count. The invitation is a decision waiting at the edge of the Room, not a membership added in advance.

Pingo sits between a warmly lit gathering doorway and a quiet moonlit garden doorway.

Pingo’s two-door foyer is an editorial aside about that choice. The real invitation is private to the recipient. Pingo cannot inspect it, accept it, dismiss it, or learn which way someone chose.

If the Room is password-protected, a direct invitation from its owner is enough. The recipient is not asked to enter the Room password as a second step. The normal Room limits still apply when they join.

A quiet no stays quiet

Invitations expire after seven days. If someone dismisses one, PingRoom does not report that choice back to the sender. The sender continues to see the neutral Invited state during that seven-day window. The picker also does not reveal whether a private dismissal or a block stopped the invitation.

Sending the same invitation again during the window does not create another prompt. This keeps a private dismissal from becoming a signal the sender can probe, and it keeps the recipient’s Rooms list from filling with repeated invitations.

After an invitation expires, use the normal link, code, or QR if the person still needs another route in. Those methods are also the right choice when someone is new to PingRoom or is not already connected to you through a shared private Room.

Use the route that matches the relationship

PingRoom still supports room links, invite codes, and QR joining. In-app invitations add a different route:

  • Use Invite people when the recipient is already known through a shared private Room and you want the invitation to wait inside PingRoom.
  • Use a link, code, or QR when you are inviting someone new, sharing outside your existing Rooms, or using the current mobile release.

The right people see a bounded invitation where they manage Rooms, and everyone else is left out of the decision. You can set up a smaller crew without opening another conversation about who should join.

To use the new flow now, open PingRoom on the web. PingRoom works across phone, Watch, and browser, as the current feature overview explains; the direct invitation picker is browser-only in the current public release.
