How to Give Different Group Alerts Custom Notification Sounds
Assign recognizable sounds to rooms or actions so family, team, and automation Pings are distinguishable before you read the screen.

PingRoom includes 25 notification sounds, currently available without a Pro-only sound split. Choose a sound for the room or supported action so members can recognize its category before reading the notification.
Map sound to meaning
Start with the few distinctions that matter. A family arrival room can use one gentle sound; an on-call incident room can use a sharper one. Do not assign a unique sound to every minor action—the listener will not remember the vocabulary.
Preview sounds on the actual phone, at a realistic volume, and with the people who will receive them. Consider hearing differences, sensory sensitivity, workplace etiquette, and quiet environments. A visible label and icon should still carry the meaning for anyone who cannot or does not hear the sound.
Keep urgent and routine rooms separate when members need different mute choices. A user should be able to silence a noisy automation without losing an important family signal.
Understand device behavior
Custom sound playback is controlled by the operating system. Silent mode, Focus modes, notification settings, connected audio devices, and platform restrictions can suppress or alter it. A distinctive sound is not a guarantee that someone heard the Ping.
For requests that need proof of human response, use acknowledgement or a Question rather than inferring attention from sound. For emergency and life-safety events, preserve the official alarm or paging path.
Sounds work best as a redundant cue paired with a precise room name and action label. Explore the broader feature set or learn why quick actions form a room language.
