Story 17
The feature they didn’t add
Saying no to familiar chat features protects the focused promise that made the product useful in the first place.

Someone asked for threads.
Someone else wanted typing indicators, reactions, read receipts, and searchable conversations.
Each request was reasonable.
Together, they described a chat app.
PingRoom could become another place to talk.
Or it could remain the place where one important fact becomes known and done.
So the team said no.
Not because the features were difficult.
Because every useful product is defined partly by the work it refuses to absorb.
Focus is a service to the people who came for the original promise.
