How to Send an Automatic Arrival Notification Without Sharing Live Location

PingRoom can send one agreed I arrived event to selected people without showing them a moving map. This is useful when the outcome matters—“my child reached school” or “I got home”—but nobody needs to watch the journey.

Agree on the check-in first

Create a private room containing only the people who should receive the arrival. Name the action after the real promise: Home safe, Reached school, or At the office. Keep a manual version of that action visible so the traveler can send it directly.

Then attach an entry trigger to the relevant place and allow the phone’s background-location permission. Test it on an ordinary trip. When the boundary fires, recipients see the room action and its time. They do not get a route, speed, or series of position updates.

How this differs from live location

Live sharing answers “Where are they now?” throughout a journey. An arrival Ping answers only “Did the chosen boundary event happen?” Your phone still uses location to make that decision, but iOS or Android monitors the geofence on the device. PingRoom receives the resulting action rather than a continuous coordinate history.

This narrower signal can be easier to consent to, but it is not anonymous. The room records that the action fired, and members know which device or person produced it. Everyone involved should understand the boundary and be able to disable it.

Background permissions, battery settings, poor connectivity, and operating-system timing can delay the event. A Ping is routine reassurance, not proof of safety or an emergency-location service.
