How to Send a Ping From iPhone Control Center
Add PingRoom's Ping a Room control on iOS 18 or later, choose a Room, and test the first Quick Ping that can send without extra input.

On an iPhone running iOS 18 or later, add PingRoom's Ping a Room control to Control Center, choose one Room, and a tap will send that Room's first Quick Ping that needs no extra details.
The last part is important. The control does not open a menu of every Ping, and it cannot collect a location, link, or file. Set up the Room's Quick Pings before relying on the control.
Add Ping a Room to Control Center
First, install or update PingRoom and sign in. Then:
- Open Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen.
- Touch and hold an empty area, then choose Add a Control.
- Find PingRoom and add Ping a Room.
- Touch and hold the new control to configure it.
- Choose the Room you want it to use.
- Leave editing mode and confirm that the control shows the chosen Room.
Apple documents the same add-and-arrange flow in its Control Center guide. Third-party controls arrived with iOS 18, so an older iOS version will not show this PingRoom control.
Know which Quick Ping it sends
The control reads the selected Room's Quick Pings in order and uses the first one it can send immediately. It skips any action that asks for extra input, such as a location, link, or file.
For example, suppose a Room has this order:
- Share location — needs input, so the control skips it.
- On my way — sends immediately, so the control uses it.
- At the door — also eligible, but it comes later.
That means the reliable setup is to put the one-tap signal you want first among the Room's no-input Quick Pings. If the first position changes later, the Control Center behavior can change with it.

Pingo the Pigeon, PingRoom's fictional Chief Marketing Officer, has taken responsibility for staring at the empty first slot. He cannot configure the control, select a Room, or send on anyone's behalf. The people in the Room still choose the action and run the test.
Run a harmless rehearsal
Do not make an urgent moment the first live test.
- Choose a small Room with one other person who knows a test is coming.
- Put a harmless no-input Quick Ping first among the eligible actions.
- Tap Ping a Room once from Control Center.
- Open PingRoom and confirm the expected Ping appears in the Room history.
- Ask the other person to confirm what they received.
- Restore the Room's intended Quick Ping order if the test changed it.
This checks the Room choice and action choice. It does not guarantee that every phone will display a notification: operating-system permission, Focus, connectivity, and device state can still affect presentation.
If the control is unavailable
PingRoom disables the control when it cannot send safely. Check these states:
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| Sign in to PingRoom | Open PingRoom and sign in on the same iPhone |
| Choose a room | Edit the control and select an available Room |
| A disabled control after choosing a Room | Make sure the Room still exists, you can still send there, and it has a no-input Quick Ping |
| The wrong signal arrives | Review the Room's Quick Ping order and the input each action requires |
If you leave the selected Room or switch accounts, the control does not silently fall back to another Room. Choose a valid Room again.
Choose the right one-tap surface
Control Center is best when one Room has one dominant, repeatable signal. Other surfaces fit different jobs:
| Need | Better surface |
|---|---|
| Send the first eligible Quick Ping from one selected Room | Control Center |
| Keep a Room action visible on the Home or Lock Screen | PingRoom widget |
| Send a named Ping with a phrase, automation, or supported hardware button | Shortcut |
| Trigger a repeatable action by tapping a physical tag | NFC shortcut |
On a supported iPhone, the same configurable control can also be useful on the Action Button. A Shortcut remains the better choice when you need to target a specific named action rather than accept the Room's first eligible one.
Install or update PingRoom, choose a non-critical Room, and run one deliberate Control Center rehearsal before you need the signal for real.
