How to Use an MCP Notification Server for AI Agents

PingRoom can give an MCP-capable AI client a structured way to reach people. The client connects to the PingRoom MCP endpoint, authenticates as a scoped agent, discovers the available tools, and invokes the notification or decision primitive appropriate to the task.

Start with identity and scope

Register the agent through PingRoom’s agent-access flow and grant only the rooms and capabilities it needs. Keep the agent credential in the client’s protected secret storage. Never copy a human JWT or the mobile app’s private session into an MCP configuration.

Use a plain Ping for an informational event, a Question for two to four predefined outcomes, an approval for a consequential gate, and a Handoff when the next step requires human work. Include a correlation ID so the result can return to the correct run.

Because MCP clients differ, follow the current agent access documentation for the endpoint, authorization, and tool schemas rather than copying stale configuration from a blog post.

Keep execution boundaries outside MCP

The agent or downstream service must still validate the result and authorize the real action. An MCP tool call should not bypass deployment rules, payment controls, database permissions, or other policy.

Limit response sizes, set timeouts, handle cancellation and expiry explicitly, and keep secrets out of prompts and notification text. Log correlation metadata in the system that owns the run.
