Give your study session a shared countdown

Set a work period your study Room can follow, let the Countdown finish, and start a separate timer when it is time for a break.

Pingo leans over an open blank notebook beside an hourglass in a softly lit window alcove.

Your study group is meeting from different places. One person has an essay to write, another has practice questions, and someone else is revising notes. You have agreed to work for half an hour and then take a break.

Start a Countdown in your private PingRoom Room. Everyone can see the remaining time for that session, without needing to coordinate separate timers or ask when the break starts.

The timer shares the work period. What each person does during it is still up to them.

Start with one named session

Open the Room, start a live update, and choose Countdown.

Give it a name that tells the group what is ending: Quiet study, Practice questions, or First draft. Set Counts down for to 30 minutes, check the preview, and start it when the group is ready.

Thirty minutes is an example, not a recommended study method or a promise about concentration. Pick a duration your group agrees to try.

The card counts toward the session’s deadline. You do not need to post updates as each minute passes. Someone who opens the Room partway through can see how much time remains.

Let the deadline do its job

When the deadline passes, PingRoom completes the Countdown and sends a Time is up alert. Notification delivery depends on each person’s device and settings, so the Room remains the place to check the activity.

If the group stops early, finish the Countdown from the Room. A finished session should reflect what you actually did, even if the plan changed.

The timer does not measure attention, check whether a notebook is open, or prove that anyone completed their work. If you want to compare progress afterward, ask each other.

Pingo takes a balcony break beside a cup and a closed notebook, while an hourglass with settled sand remains inside.

Pingo, our fictional CMO, has moved from the notebook to the balcony. He appears better prepared for the break than for the revision.

Make the break a separate session

When you are ready, start a new Countdown called Break. Choose five or ten minutes, or another duration that suits the group.

That gives the break its own end time. Starting another work period is a separate action too; this example is not an automatically repeating work-and-rest schedule.

A simple first session could look like this:

MomentWhat to do
Everyone is readyStart Quiet study for 30 minutes
The deadline passesThe activity completes; check in with the group
Break beginsStart a new Break Countdown
You decide to continueStart a fresh work session

This is a suggested routine, not a customer result or a productivity claim.

Countdown is one of PingRoom’s Live Activity types. Starting activities yourself is free in private Rooms, with up to 50 new activities per day on either plan. Updates and finishing do not count toward that limit. The Room card also works on the web; presentation outside the app depends on the device and settings.

For your next shared study period, open the Room, agree on a duration, and start one Countdown together.
