How to Create a Private Alert Group for Friends or Family

A private alert group in PingRoom is a room whose membership is controlled through its invite code or link. Create the room, share the invitation only with the intended people, and configure the few signals that group needs.

Start with membership and purpose

Name the room for the relationship or situation: Household, Night shift check-in, or Festival crew. Then invite members directly. A private room is not listed as a public broadcast channel.

Before sending anything, agree on the action meanings. A safety room might use All good, Call me, and Need pickup. A household room might use Dinner, At the door, and Package arrived.

Keep the group private in practice

An invite link is a key to the room. Share it through a trusted channel and avoid posting it publicly. Review room membership when the group changes. If a use case needs an open audience, create a separate public room instead of weakening the private one.

PingRoom does not require the alert group to become a contact directory or social feed. The room exists for its signals. Members can leave, mute, or adjust their preferences without turning the room into a permanent conversation archive.

Give every alert a cost

The value of a private group depends on trust. Do not use an urgent sound for casual updates, and do not add speculative actions “just in case.” Each button should represent a real recurring moment.
