To set up a PingRoom Personal Room on iPhone, open **Profile**, start **Personal Room** setup, choose an available public handle, prepare two to four visitor Quick Pings, add at least one contact-card route, and create the Room. Test its link yourself before sharing it widely.

Your handle and Personal Room link are public by design. Your contact card is a separate choice, so add only the route you intend to share.

## Know what you are creating

A Personal Room gives you one public PingRoom address that people can open from a link or QR. Visitors choose one of your prepared Quick Pings instead of needing your phone number or composing a message from scratch.

The setup has four parts:

1. **Handle:** the public name in your Personal Room address.
2. **Quick Pings:** the limited choices a visitor can use to reach you.
3. **Contact card:** the contact route you may share through the Room.
4. **Ready:** the link and QR you can inspect before distribution.

For the product model behind those parts, read [Personal Rooms, handles, and contact cards](/blog/personal-rooms-handles-and-contact-cards). This guide focuses on finishing the current iPhone setup without publishing more than you mean to.

## 1. Choose a public handle

Enter a handle using lowercase letters, numbers, or underscores. It must be 3–20 characters and available when PingRoom checks it.

A good handle is easy to say aloud and hard to mistype. Avoid putting private information in it. The illustrative handle `maya_studio` describes a public identity; it is not a customer, reserved-handle promise, or availability claim.

Before continuing, read the full address once. If you would not put that handle on a public card, choose another one.

## 2. Prepare two to four visitor Quick Pings

Setup requires at least two configured Quick Pings and supports up to four at creation. The defaults give you a starting point, but the useful set depends on why people should reach you.

For an illustrative independent-studio setup, a restrained set might be:

| Visitor Quick Ping | What it should mean |
| ------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| **Project inquiry** | I want to ask about a possible project |
| **Coffee?** | I want to suggest a casual conversation |
| **Following up** | We have already met and I am continuing that exchange |

Keep each choice distinct. **Let's talk**, **Say hi**, and **Interested** can blur together unless your context gives them clear jobs.

These Quick Pings are invitations to start a PingRoom interaction. They do not authorize Pingo, a visitor, or an automated account to act for you.

## 3. Add a deliberately small contact card

Add at least one valid contact-card item before creation. Current choices include common routes such as Instagram, phone, WhatsApp, Telegram, LinkedIn, or a custom link.

Start with one route you are comfortable sharing. You can make a better privacy decision when each item has a clear purpose:

| Item | Public or shared? |
| ------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Handle and Room link | Public and shareable by design |
| Visitor Quick Ping names | Visible to someone opening the Personal Room |
| Contact-card route | A separate item you choose; publish only the address or number you intend to use |
| Private connection note | Kept in your own PingRoom context and not part of Personal Room setup |

If you later need to remember where you met someone, use a [private connection note](/blog/add-private-notes-to-pingroom-connections) instead of putting that context in the public handle or visitor choices.

The doorway test above is an illustration, not a generated app screen or a real person's Room. [Pingo the Pigeon](/Pingo), PingRoom's official mascot and fictional Chief Marketing Officer, is guarding the privacy screen. He cannot see private Room activity, approve contact sharing, or manage an account.

## 4. Create and test the first link

After the handle, Quick Pings, and contact card are valid, create the Personal Room. Then run a first-link rehearsal:

1. Copy the Personal Room link or show its QR.
2. Open it in a browser or on a second device where you can see the visitor view.
3. Confirm the displayed handle and Quick Pings are the ones you intended.
4. Check that the contact route exposes only what you chose.
5. Send one harmless Quick Ping during an expected test, then confirm it appears in PingRoom.

Testing the link is different from testing a designed QR. If you later use PingRoom Pro to change QR color, style, emoji, or center image, follow the separate [Personal Room QR proofing guide](/blog/customize-pingroom-personal-room-qr).

## Keep the public boundary clear

Someone else can forward a public Personal Room link. Treat the handle and visitor choices as public-facing copy, even if you initially share the link with one person.

PingRoom Pro adds Personal Room insights and custom QR options. Basic setup does not turn every visitor into a contact, prove that a scan caused a conversation, or guarantee that someone will respond.

If the invitation should stop for a while, use the Personal Room availability controls rather than deleting your identity in a hurry. Reopen the public link after any change and confirm the current state.
