PingRoom lets people connect through a room invite code, QR code, or link instead of exchanging phone numbers. Create a room, share the invitation through any channel you already trust, and send quick-action Pings after the other person joins.

## Use a room identity for the purpose

Name the room after the shared context—**School pickup**, **Event crew**, or **Package arrivals**—and add only the actions that context needs. Members see the room and sender identity inside PingRoom; they do not need one another’s phone numbers to receive the group signal.

PingRoom supports a guest start, so trying the basic room experience does not begin with a phone-number form. Durable ownership and advanced account features can require an account and verification, but a phone number is not the room’s addressing system.

## “No phone number” is not “anonymous”

The room still has members, sender identity, event history, devices, and server-side delivery. Recipients may know who shared the invite. PingRoom is not designed to hide abuse, bypass consent, or send unsolicited anonymous pushes.

Treat an invite link like access to the room. Share it only with intended participants, review membership, remove people who no longer need access, and rotate or replace exposed invitations where supported. Avoid placing personal contact data in room names or lock-screen action labels.

Device notification permission, connectivity, Focus modes, and room settings still control whether a push appears. For the simplest one-to-one setup, read [how to send a notification to a friend](/blog/how-to-send-notification-to-friend) and [Start as a Guest](/blog/start-as-a-guest).
