# A Quick Ping can ask for the missing detail

“I’m here” is useful. “I’m here” with the location is useful without another round of questions.

The same is true for a receipt, a document, or the link everyone needs.

In the PingRoom 1.5.3 beta, a Room owner can configure a Quick Ping to ask for that detail when someone taps it. The available choices are **Current location**, **Link**, **File**, and **Photo**. The usual **Send ping** option still sends immediately.

As of September 17, this is a **beta feature** in PingRoom’s mobile app. PingRoom’s official [beta page](/beta) lists iOS TestFlight build 137 and Android beta build 60 for version 1.5.3.

## Choose what happens when someone taps

Open a Room’s Ping editor and select the Quick Ping you want to change. Under **When tapped**, choose what that Ping should collect:

| **Photo**            | The photo library opens                                                         |

The setting belongs to that Quick Ping. A Room can keep **On my way** as an immediate send while **I’m outside** asks for a current location and **Receipt attached** asks for a file.

Those names are examples, not existing public Rooms or customer workflows.

## The detail is part of the tap

When someone selects a detail-required Quick Ping in the mobile app, PingRoom collects the chosen item before sending. Cancel the picker or permission request and the Ping is not sent.

The server checks the requirement too. A location Ping must contain a location, a link Ping must contain a valid web link, and a file or photo Ping must include an attachment of the expected kind. A client cannot skip the request and send an incomplete version of the Quick Ping.

Pingo’s sorting table is an editorial metaphor. The real interaction happens in the mobile app, with the device’s location permission, link field, file picker, or photo library.

Uploading an attachment requires **PingRoom Pro**. Location and link collection do not use that attachment upload. For new Quick Pings, choose **File** when the requested item may be a PDF. Earlier PDF-specific Quick Pings remain readable and enforceable, but the current picker no longer offers PDF as a separate new choice.

## Match the requirement to the moment

Use the lightest requirement that removes a predictable follow-up:

- **Current location** when the useful answer is one present place, such as a pickup point. This is a one-time location attached to the Ping, not a background location trail.
- **Link** when everyone needs the same destination, booking page, or reference.
- **File** when the moment needs a document, including a PDF.
- **Photo** when the image itself is the update.

Do not require a detail only because it is available. A dinner bell, arrival notice, or simple status change may be clearer as an immediate Ping.

## Use the mobile app for these Quick Pings

The 1.5.3 beta mobile app is currently the only PingRoom surface that collects the required detail at tap time. The browser app, MCP tools, SDK, CLI, and Telegram `/ping` command do not collect it yet. If one of those surfaces tries the action, the server returns `422 quick_action_input_required` instead of sending a partial Ping.

Check how people send in the Room before adding a requirement. If members regularly send from a terminal, browser, Telegram, or an agent workflow, keep their Quick Pings immediate for now. Use a detail-required Quick Ping when the people who need to press it are using the beta mobile app.

On mobile: tap the Quick Ping, provide the required detail, and send.
