Mute when you only want one member's regular Pings to stop in one Room. Block when you want that account to stop contacting you. Report when you want PingRoom to review harmful content or conduct. You can report and block the same account; they solve different problems.

If anyone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services. A product report is not an emergency response channel.

## Choose the control by outcome

| Your goal | Use | What it does |
| -------------------------------------------------- | ------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Quiet one person's regular Pings in one Room | Mute | Hides that member's regular Pings for you in that Room; urgent Pings can still notify |
| Stop further contact from an account | Block | Stops contact and hides that account's Pings and content from you |
| Ask PingRoom to review harmful behavior or content | Report | Sends a reason and optional details to PingRoom for review |
| Stop belonging to a Room | Leave | Ends your membership; reporting a Room offers this as a separate follow-up |

Muting is the narrow notification choice. Blocking is the personal boundary. Reporting supplies information for review. Do not use a mute as a substitute when contact itself is unwanted.

## Mute one member when the Room is still useful

Open the Room, open its member list, choose the person, and select **Mute**. This choice applies to that person in that Room. It does not create a global block.

The [complete mute guide](/blog/mute-a-pingroom-room-or-member) explains the urgent-Ping exception, unmuting, and the difference between a member mute and muting the whole Room.

## Block an account from the member sheet

When you want contact to stop:

1. Open a Room you share with the person.
2. Open the member list and choose their profile.
3. Open **More** if the safety actions are not already visible.
4. Choose **Block** and read the confirmation.
5. Confirm only when the account shown is the one you intend to block.

PingRoom's current confirmation explains that the blocked account cannot contact you and that you will not see its Pings or content. Blocking is broader than one Room's mute.

Because blocking changes the relationship between the accounts, shared Room access can also change. If you later unblock the account, PingRoom does not automatically rebuild earlier Room relationships. Review membership and invitations separately.

## Report a user with useful context

From the same member sheet, choose **Report**. The report form asks for a reason and offers an optional details field.

Choose the closest reason, then add only information that helps locate and understand the concern:

- the Room where it happened;
- what you observed;
- when it happened, as precisely as you can state honestly; and
- any repeated pattern that is directly relevant.

Do not embellish, diagnose motives, or publish sensitive evidence in another Room. The purpose of the details box is to make the report actionable, not dramatic.

After a user report from a Room, PingRoom also mutes that person for you in that Room. Blocking remains a separate action you can take from their profile. PingRoom's [Child Safety Standards](/child-safety) document both behaviors and provide a contact route when a report control is unavailable.

![A covered bell, a closed wooden gate, and a sealed blank envelope represent mute, block, and report while two avatars and Pingo observe.](/blog/block-or-report-someone-in-pingroom-1.webp)

The covered bell, gate, and envelope are editorial metaphors for three separate controls. [Pingo the Pigeon](/Pingo), our fictional Chief Marketing Officer, is keeping his distance from the latch. He is not a moderator, witness, account holder, or source of approval. The reporting person chooses the control, and the human PingRoom team remains responsible for review and enforcement decisions.

## Report a Room, then decide whether to leave

If the concern is the Room itself, open its settings or supported report surface and choose **Report Room**. Select a reason, add relevant details, and submit.

After a successful Room report, PingRoom offers to leave the Room. Reporting and leaving are separate choices: you can submit the concern without pretending the report itself has already ended your membership.

For prohibited conduct and the current reporting contact, use the [Child Safety Standards](/child-safety) and [Terms of Service](/terms). For ordinary account or product help, use [PingRoom Support](/support).

## Unblock only when you intend to reopen contact

To reverse a block:

1. Open PingRoom **Settings**.
2. Choose **Blocked accounts**.
3. Find the account and choose **Unblock**.
4. Rejoin or invite separately if a Room relationship should be restored.

Unblocking removes the block. It is not a promise to restore membership, replay missed content, or undo a submitted report.

## Keep an independent safety plan

For immediate danger, contact local emergency services. For suspected child sexual abuse or exploitation, follow the contact and reporting instructions in PingRoom's [Child Safety Standards](/child-safety). Do not wait for an in-app review when urgent real-world help is required.

[Open PingRoom Rooms](/app/rooms) and review one Room's member actions before you need them. Knowing where mute, block, and report live makes a hard decision less confusing later.
